Final Stat, Results and league positions

The curtain has come down on the most succesful season in the history of Oswestry Cricket Club. We have seen success on the pitch, with the 1st XI missing out on promotion in just the last two games of the season, The 2nd XI being promoted as champions of their league, The 3rd XI missing out on automatic promotion by just 6 points, and the 4ths coming 5th in their league, following a season where they hardly won a game!.

We have had success off the pitch, a great County one day game in May, a wonderful 3 day game which saw a record score for a Minor Counites fixture (1543 runs in 3 days) in a game that we were given just 7 days notice for, and the club has gelled together like never before.

Thank you to everyone for you efforts on and off the pitch, your positive comments on and off line, and for everyones overall support. We can be proud.

Grumpy Old Bowlers night

Friday November 11th sees a trio of former England test stars take the stage at Morda Road. Angus Fraser, Ashley Giles and Derek Pringle will give a evening of humour and anecdote about the game we love and life in general, and will bring the curtain down on the most successful season in the clubs history. Tickets are just £15 for the evening, and this price includes a generous helping Chilli and Rice at some stage during the night. Tickets are available from Mike Robinson on 07971 559657 or from the clubhouse.

Another “full house” for Oswestry Cricket Club

For the 3rd time in 6 weeks, all four Oswestry teams won their respective matches on Saturday 3rd Spetember, setting up tantalising season finishes for all teams.

The 1st XI won a nailbitting match against promotion rivals Tamworth. Following Oswestrys 239, Tamworth were set a reduced target of 189 from 43 overs. In front of a large, and somewhat vociforous crowd, Jono Miles “yorked” their #11 with just 2 overs remaining. They are now just 13 points behind league leaders Brewood, who they host nest Saturday – game on!!

The 2nd Xi had a comfortable 93 run win over Fordhouses to maintain their lead, which is now 21 points, with just 2 games to go. Having elected to bat, they scored 233 -7, and then bowled Fordhouses out for just 140.

the 3rd XI also had a comfortable win away at promotion challengers Knockin. Put into bat, Knockin slumped from 102-1 to 158 ao. Despite losing a wicket to the 3rd ball of the reply, the 3rds got to 163-2, with 10 overs to spare.

The 4ths had an easy win against Ellesmere at Oswestry School. Having inserted their opponents, they bowled them out for 103, and then notched off the required runs for the loss of just 4 wickets.

Saturday September 10th becomes vital for all teams. The 1sts host promotion rivals and league leaders Brewood, in what is almost a winner takes all game. The 2nds can wrap up promotion with a big win away in the reverse fixture against Brewood 2nds. the 3rds host 2nd to bottom of the table Harcourt in a must win game, and the 4ths travel to Allscott to keep up their promotion hopes.

Think we would have settled for this att he start of the season. Carn the town!

Shropshire vs Wiltshire 3 day County game to be held at Morda Road

OCC have been asked at the last minute to host the 3 day MCCA Championship Western Division game between Shropshire and Wiltshire, to commence on Sunday 21st August. The Morda Road ground was chosen to host the game, once Shrewsbury had won through to the semi-final of the ECB National Club Championship, and had been drawn to play at home, against West Indian Cavaliers at their London Road home ground, which was to start on the same day. As such, the ECB decided that the Semi-final took priority, and a new home was needed for the County game. Morda Road stepped up to the plate.
