Success for Oswestry at the ECB National Coach of the Year Awards

4 Dec 2022

Oswestry Cricket Club were well represented at the recent England and Wales Cricket Boards Annual Coach of the Year Awards ceremony in Coventry, and the resoundingly successful evening was completed with Our Women and Girls Captain and Coach, Naomi Payne, winning the National Coach of the Year Award.

The evening was even more successful for our Club, as Andrew Leggatt was also nominated as a finalist in the ECB Services to Coaching category.

Both Naomi and Andrew were present at the National Wards having been successful at the Shropshire Coach of the Year awards earlier in the month.

Naomi was named National Coach of the Year for having single handedly led the development of the Clubs Women and Girls section, growing the squad and developing relationships with sponsors and funders, with the number of young players who have been added to the club in 2022 being highlighted as her highest impact.

As you would expect, the ever-humble Naomi attended the awards ceremony thinking that she was simply attending the event with other Counties Coaches to celebrate the impact that each of them had made in their Clubs and Communities, but she walked away with the National Award.

Andrew, who runs the club’s junior section, was also shortlisted having received Cricket Shropshire’s Outstanding Contribution Award for Services to Coaching at the Shropshire ceremony. Andrews’ attendance at the ceremony is rich recognition for the tireless efforts and commitment that Andrew has given the club in a variety of roles and capacities over the years.

Congratulations to both and thank you for your efforts, we are all very proud of both of you!
