Monthly Newsletter - February 2025
Cricket News
The winter nets so far have been brilliantly attended so far with the best numbers we've seen for years, the sessions will now shift to a Sunday morning and more information will follow in the WhatsApp groups.
We need to continue to proactively recruit players, coaches and volunteers for all roles to strengthen the club and any enquiries can be directed to the website to express an interest. We will, as a club, support people to do the relevant training to participate in this great sport in any way they wish whether its playing, coaching, scoring or umpiring.
Now we near the start of the season anyone who needs to buy new playing or training kit can do so via:
White senior playing shirts and caps direct from the club's supply (100% of money to the club) via the club website:
https://oswestrycricketclub.co.uk/clothing
Or a wider selection of playing and training kit from the Oswestry store on the Macron website, if ordering via this method there is a discount code: OCC10 which can be used for a 10% discount on all purchases. Please note that this Discount code will expire on March 31st.
Macron Sports Oswestry CC Senior teams page
The Macron kits and clothing will be used for at least the 2025 and 2026 seasons, so if you are buying this year you are buying for at least 2 seasons worth of usage.
Affordability and accessibility of cricket to everyone is at the heart of every decision we make, and please remember that the hardship fund set up by the club is in place for this season to help anyone where personal finances would prohibit them or their children from participating either in memberships, subs, kit etc.
You can approach anyone you feel comfortable with linked to the club and your details will be passed to the relevant people.
Individual grants for help with kits etc. can be accessed via Oswestry Sports Forum, this way of accessing funds for the costs associated with playing sport is vastly underused and underutilised, so it is worth a look.
Membership fees and match fees
To continue the theme of affordability and supporting everyone given the squeeze on personal finances due to the cost of living we have had a detailed look at and review of membership prices and match fees. We want to make them affordable and simplify them for 2025 so the changes agreed are summarised as below:
Everyone playing must have paid one of the membership fees outlined above as this is essential and non negotiable
It is still the intention to have, where possible, and where the opposition work with us cricket teas and if there are teas for games then it will be highlighted in advance and there will be a separate additional charge. Again a huge amount of thought and planning is going into making this element affordable.
Membership fees of all types as outlined above will need to be paid in advance of the season starting.
To highlight why these funds are important, we have had repairs done over the winter to our outfield motor lawnmower and the service, grinding of the blades and replacement of the rollers all essential to give the best cut possible to the outfield has come to over £2K. These are the sorts of costs associated with the behind the scenes running of the club so your membership fees and support of social events go to covering these cricket related costs.

Its really important our players, members and volunteers support our social events as all profits go into the club to keep the club running and pay for improvements to the grounds, equipment, clubhouse etc. and to make it the best and most enjoyable place for all to enjoy cricket.
Thanks again to all the players, members, volunteers, sponsors and staff that make this such a special club, lets all work together to make 2025 a great year for OCC.
