Ladies Section

Women & Girls’ Section
Oswestry CC’s Women & Girls’ (WaGs) section is one of the most successful recreational women’s teams in Shropshire with an impressive record in welcoming and nurturing players of all abilities from the ages of 11 years to 66+ years old.

Our ethos is to always have fun on the field, always uphold the principles of fair play and sports(wo)manship, and always respect the spirit of cricket within the sisterhood. That means respecting Club and match officials, volunteers, opposition players, and each other.

Hardball & Softball League Cricket
Whilst we have plenty of laughs, we enjoy the competitive side too. We play in Cricket Shropshire’s top County Leagues in both hardball and softball formats, winning both the Strategic Leisure Super 8s Hardball League and Super 10s Softball League for the past two seasons running.

Women’s Team of the Year
The Oswestry WaGs have also been awarded the Women’s Team of the Year by Cricket Shropshire for the past two years in succession in 2024 and 2025.

We also play in Cricket Shropshire’s winter indoor hardball and softball leagues.

EDI
As a Club, we are committed to the ECB’s EDI principles and growing ever greater participation in female cricket. We are extremely proud to now have TEN mother/daughter playing pairs playing competitive cricket for the WaGs. We always welcome new players and seek to ensure everyone who wants a game gets one.

Training & Coaching
This year, we are extremely fortunate to have former Surrey CCC and Gloucestershire CCC all-rounder Ian Payne taking on the role of WaGs’ Head Coach. We train at the Club every Tuesday 6-7:30pm (weather permitting) from mid-April. Please check our WaGs Facebook page for notice of weather cancellations when necessary.

.

Hospitality

We are proud to have developed successful relationships with many other clubs across the W&Gs’ leagues in the county over the past 8 years since our inception. We pride ourselves on our friendliness and hospitality. We offer a complimentary continental breakfast to our opposition at home games in our wonderful Clubhouse.
